I am above age 65. Therefore I am forced to purchase Medicare insurance, even though I paid for it as a mandatory deduction during much of my working career. Now they take the fee directly from my social security and there is no option to not participate. I am forced to purchase auto insurance at a minimum for liability. I am forced to pay sales tax and property tax from my already-taxed income. Tax deduction thresholds for these items are designed to be rarely applicable. For all purchases, my after tax dollars become magically gross income to be further taxed by the seller of any merchandise; therefore the cost of goods to me includes the taxes (and insurance) to be paid by the retailer or provider. I once tried to calculate the total life-cycle taxes on $1 of "income". I failed.
